Construction is underway at the new Chisholm Elementary School
Despite rainy weather conditions and delays in permitting, the construction of the new Pre-K through 6 elementary in Chisholm remains on schedule as site contractors have excavators and dozers at full throttle. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry completed the plan review the last week in July and the district has received the building permit.
“This is multi-year phased project, so some areas will be complete while other areas are scheduled to be completed on future dates,” stated Project Manager Jorden Pangrac. With permitting complete, contractors will work to place utilities, footings and foundations throughout the end of summer. Precast concrete walls are scheduled to begin in October and be completed in late November. Construction crews will work to install roofing and temporary window coverings so the building can be temporarily heated in the spring to allow for interior concrete floors to be poured.
The summer of 2025 will see most of the interior work beginning including framing, mechanical and electrical rough-in and drywall. Other activities for summer include starting some sitework on the west side of the addition and steam to hot water conversion at the High School. “Despite permitting delays we still anticipate finishing the addition by the end of 2025. The final sitework and demolition of the elementary will take place in the summer of 2026,” stated Pangrac.
Superintendent Mark Morrison commented, “The District is looking forward to welcoming students and staff back for the upcoming school year. School leaders are working with the City of Chisholm on student parking solutions. We will send information to students and parents in a couple of weeks prior to school with parking details.” Construction of the new PreK-6 elementary school will continue throughout the school year. “We anticipate minimal interruptions in the school day during construction,” Morrison said.
Updates to the community will continue to be provided in the district’s school board meetings, on social media and the district’s website as progress is made.
