Third Grade Curriculum Goals

Rhythm
1. Review patterns of quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, whole notes, and half notes in duple meter.
2. Identify sixteenth note patterns in duple meter.
3. Improvise and compose patterns combining all known durations using voice and instruments.
4. Identify and notate patterns combining all known durations using stick notation.
5. Compare duple with triple meter through movement, song, speech, and instruments.
6. Perform patterns of quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests in triple meter.
7. Identify dotted half note as 3 tied quarter notes in triple meter.
8. Perform patterns of quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, half notes, and dotted half notes in triple meter.
9. Improvise and compose patterns of quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, half notes, and dotted half notes using voice and instruments.
10. Identify the anacrusis (upbeat) as preparation for the downbeat.
11.  Perform patterns in 6/8 meter.

1. Review notes of do pentatonic scale using voice, solfege syllables, and hand signs.
2. Identify low la in song repertoire.
3. Sing notes of la pentatonic scale using voice, solfege syllables, and hand signs.
4. Compare do and la pentatonic scales through improvising and composing melodies using both scales.
5. Add fa to do pentatonic scale using voice, solfege syllables, and hand signs.
6. Sing, improvise, and compose melodies using do hexatonic scale.
